Aljur Abrenica Fulfills a Cancer Patient's Wish

Naturally kindhearted and grateful for all the blessings he continuously receives, Aljur Abrenica didn't feel any hesitation when asked to fulfill a young girl's wish to spend an afternoon with him. With the help of Make A Wish Foundation and GMA Artist Center, the 5-year old leukemia patient, Elizabeth or "Isay" felt really happy and excited finally meeting his all-time crush and idol.

Isay's "dream come true" moment happened yesterday, October 21, 2013 at the V. Luna General Hospital in Quezon City. It was truly a heartwarming afternoon as Aljur gave a surprise visit at the hospital hours before Isay's operation. Aljur, who is obviously fond of kids, drew instant connection with Isay and spared his whole afternoon playing and bonding with her.

Come and Get Aljur

Unknown to many, Starstruck's Ultimate Hunk and Kapuso Leading Man Aljur Abrenica has a great passion for singing. In fact, he shared during an intimate lunch with him that he learned to love singing first more than acting.

Growing up from a family who loves music, and with his dad as a musician and a band member in their hometown, it is quite inevitable for Aljur to appreciate and embrace singing and music.

Humble and truly down-to-earth, the 23-year old Aljur reveals that the discovery of his knack for singing wasn't expected, and that he was also actually surprised by his talent. It was during his high school year when he was asked to join their school's Mr. Don Bosco Academy contest where he was required to perform for the pageant's talent portion. He recalled that he performed the classic "Macho Gwapito" and received several praises and admiration on his lovely voice and astonishing singing skill. From then on, he fondled on this newly found talent and continued to hone his craft in singing even more.

Bea Alonzo is The One

Bea Alonzo is undeniably one of the best actresses our country has ever had. Aside from her pretty and always vibrant face, this 26-year old actress is really admirable when it comes to attitude and work ethics, and truly unquestionable when we talk about her acting prowess.

Bea has done lots of memorable roles and it's not just the roles that are to be credited, these roles become immortal because a brilliant actress portrays them.

At a young age, Bea was very effective as the lawyer Katrina Argos in her first-ever drama series, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, with Lorna Tolentino as the  main actress. This is where her depth as an actress was recognized by the public, and where her team-up with equally superb actor John Lloyd Cruz was born.

I Dare You Returns with a Newfangled Set of Hosts

Two years after the first season, ABS-CBN's original reality show "I Dare You" is returning to our TV screens with a new-fangled set of cool and equally competitive hosts.

John Prats, Deniesse Aguilar and Robi Domingo will join Melai Cantiveros, who is the only holdover from the first season, as the hosts of the returning reality show.

Unlike other reality shows where the contestants are just the ones expected to do random physical challenges, what makes I Dare You Season 2 more exciting is that the hosts themselves were surprisingly part of the different obstacles, too.

Also making I Dare You Season 2 unique is the show's aim and vision - to continue to help Filipinos in need with the help of a Celebrity Kakampi. Each episode is focused to the life of an 'everyday Filipino,' whether an individual, a family or a community, who is referred to as the "Bidang Kapamilya" and have inspiring stories to share about their daily struggles. Celebrity Kakampis are then dared to experience the challenges of these people and win prizes for the Bidang Kapamilya.

Coco Martin and Juan Dela Cruz

Drama King Coco Martin is undeniably the most popular actor in the country now. He has all the right to claim it and I'm sure no one will even try to contest. From a simple man who just wanted to earn money and survive his everyday life, Coco himself never imagined that he would achieve the superstar status that he has now.

Tagged as the Prince of Philippine Independent Films, Coco is truly admirable on how he recalls his humble beginnings in the industry and never forgets about it. Even if he already is considered as one of the most bankable mainstream actors, he remains to be the humble and passionate guy who is still willing to do independent films. He acknowledges that indie films, where his showbiz career started, will always be a part of him.

From his supporting character in ABS-CBN's hit drama series in 2009, Tayong Dalawa, which had unusually become one of the most-loved villains because of his excellent portrayal, Coco Martin's career in showbiz suddenly skyrocketed. Coco became an addition to the country's list of most wanted leading men due to the public's warm and high regard to his unquestionable acting talent.

Shane Filan in Manila

Being a '90s kid myself, I cannot deny the memories I have had with boybands. Yes, boybands were definitely everybody's favorite during my days in high school (early 2000's). Girls scream for charming guys who sing while doing entertaining dance routines, and boys also do love to sing and pretend like they're part of a famous singing male group.

Of all the boybands that conquered the music charts, the Irish group Westlife, is one of my personal favorites. In fact, I have original copies of all their albums - special thanks to my best friend who also loves the group, he always buys me one and gives it to me as a gift. Also, Westlife's "Swear It Again" is the song I first sang onstage during a school program.

Still dashing Shane Filan

Among the members of the group, it was of course their lead vocalist, Shane Filan, who I admire the most. I can still clearly remember when my schoolmates used to tell me that I sound like him whenever I sing Westlife's songs. With this, whether they were just fooling around with me or not, I still continued to sing like Shane and continued to sing Westlife's hits whenever I was asked to perform in public.

Westlife Frontman Goes Solo

“Once I started writing, I felt that if it can be sung in a pub and also sung in a big venue, then it’s a really good song. It’s a very singalong album.” says Shane Filan.

If you’ve sold 50 million albums, had 14 No 1 singles and been a multi-platinum pop star for well over a decade, what do you do? If you’re Shane Filan, you forget about the gold discs and start all over again.

When Shane’s old band Westlife amicably ended in 2012, he knew he wanted to go solo – but he wasn’t sure if he knew how to do it. “All my life, I’ve said I’d love to keep singing for as long as I can,” he says. “But when Westlife split, I thought ‘Oh, okay! I’m going to have to do it on my own.’ To be honest, it was something I was never looking forward to. I wasn’t comfortable with the idea of being solo, but I was 32 when we ended and I didn’t want to retire. I want to sing for a living and I’m lucky I’ve got another chance to do that.”

For six months, Shane didn’t do anything. He had well-documented financial problems after investment deals went wrong and admits: “I was in a very nervous and scary place.” But he had the support of his wife Gillian and wanted to provide for their three children.

Rocco is the Final Choice

This Christmas, let us learn more about the life and martyrdom of the newest Filipino saint, the Blessed Pedro Calungsod, in a movie written and directed by Francis O. Villacorta.

Originally intended for JM De Guzman, Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir will now be topbilled by the talented Kapuso actor, Rocco Nacino. Among other choices to replace JM were Paulo Avelino, Alden Richards and Coco Martin, but Rocco topped the list because he looks like the young saint and has already played Calungsod in a GMA News TV historical docu-drama.

This is not going to be the typical MMFF film because this will give the audience a glance at what and how far Christianity has gone since 1668 during the mission of San Pedro Calungsod. He also emphasized that the audience will appreciate the adventure, fears and tensions in the film, and that it will have an affirmative effect on the youth citing that life doesn’t have to be long to be able to make something of it.

A film not being made for money, the producers wish that every Filipino should watch this and that the film will have an effect in the lives of the audience in a positive Christian way.

Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir will be shown in cinemas nationwide on December 25, 2013, as part of the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival.

Barbie, here giving her bunch of thank you's.

The young Kapuso actress Barbie Forteza is unquestionably GMA-7's teen queen, having several lead roles from a youth-oriented show to even primetime teleseryes.

Her loveteam with Joshua Dionisio, which started in the Koreanovela remake, Stairway to Heaven, has been widely accepted by the young showbiz fans, and has created a hype that started another generation of young stars in TV.

Their first-ever show together as lead stars, First Time, became an instant hit, and has also introduced several young artists. Hence, a weekly youth-oriented show, Tween Hearts (which lasted for 2 years), was born!

Ramon Bautista's Bestselling Book is Now a Movie

The best-selling humor book of the self-proclaimed internet action star, Ramon Bautista, "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo" turned out to be a phenomenon especially to those who have been into love problems. It has certainly helped the romantic Filipinos to be truthful to themselves by giving straight-forward advice on how to move on easily, and on being realistic and practical to the various modern-day situations.

In continuing the celebration of their 20th anniversary in the movie industry, Star Cinema creates another milestone as they produce the movie adaptation of Ramon Bautista's best-selling book. Directed by blockbuster director, Bb. Joyce Bernal, the movie will be spearheaded by one of the country's most admired love team, Kim Chiu and Xian Lim.

We won't expect the movie, of course, to be entirely based on the book, as the book isn't actually a novel, but a series of funny questions answered brutally-truthful by Sir Ramon. However, the movie's characters are based on the most common description of the question-senders to Sir Ramon. The characters portrayed by Kim and Xian will also be in the familiar situations that are described in the book.

The Modern-Day Anna Karenina

One of Philippine TV's most unforgettable drama series, Anna Karenina, which debuted in 1996 and ended in 2002, truly had made the careers of the fantastic trio, Antoinette Taus, Sunshine Dizon and Kim Delos Santos. Through this drama series, they had proven their worth not just as teeny boppers, but as serious artists as well. This had also earned them the recognition of being the brightest young actresses of their generation.

Krystal Reyes as Anna, Barbie Forteza as Karen, and Joyce Ching as Nina

This year, GMA 7 will revive this very popular drama series and will showcase the acting talents of this generation's best young actresses - Krystal Reyes, Barbie Forteza and Joyce Ching. They may be young and fresh in showbiz, but the acting skills of Krystal, Barbie and Joyce are unquestionable and are proven to be exceptional.

Supported by a powerful cast and a brilliant director, Miss Gina Alajar, the three lead stars are very excited and pressured with their new project. They are excited not just because they are spearheading a primetime show, but because they will all be playing interesting roles.

Rocco Celebrates with Cancer Warriors Foundation

Starstruck V’s 2nd Prince Rocco Nacino is undeniably one of the reality show’s most successful alumni. He is one of GMA7’s busiest actors today, even portraying important and historical characters like Dr. Jose Rizal, San Pedro Calungsod, and now as the fictional idealistic mayor, Joseph Santiago in GMA News TV’s first-ever original series, Bayan Ko.”

His afternoon drama with Lovi Poe, “Yesterday’s Bride,” which ended last February, also ruled its timeslot with sky-rocketing ratings. Movie-wise, his last indie film “I Luv U Pare Ko”, also received innumerable positive reviews from movie critics, where he earned lots of commendations with his portrayal of a closet-and-eventually-loud gay.

He is also part of the upcoming comeback of the Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera team-up, “My Lady Boss.” He is also one of the lead stars of his upcoming movie with Gabby Concepcion, “Ibong Adarna.”

With all these gifts he continuously receives, the ever-grateful Rocco again celebrates his birthday by paying forward his blessings to the less fortunate. Spending a day with the less fortunate has always been a part of Rocco’s celebration, may it be his birthday or Christmas. Yes, it’s a semi-annual thing for Rocco and his family!

Life Before Showbiz

I originally planned about my website to feature my activities, my exciting getaways, my memorable experiences – my life, basically. But since I am not a celebrity and nothing much interesting has been taking place with me the past few months, my website has slowly become an entertainment site, featuring celebrities, movie reviews and showbiz events, most of which featuring my friend, Kapuso actor, Rocco Nacino.

Getting several questions about Rocco, on who he really is and how he is off-cam, I can only say positive words about him, not because I am trying to be kind, but because that’s who he really is – simple, determined, humble and talented young man. Rocco is obviously raised well by his parents and quite evidently, he has also grown up to be very loving of his family.

A Love Story for Closet Gays
